Q&A with Speaker, Christoph Cemper

With the Budapest Affiliate Conference creeping up on us, the iGB Events Team caught up with speaker Christoph Cemper, link builder extraordinaire, to get his insights on the industry and a sneak preview to his session!

• How long have you been in the online marketing industry?
  I started in 2003, so it's unbelievable - 7 years now!

• How has it changed in this time?
  It used to be sooo easy to game Google, put up some cheap affiliate datafeed script, buy some sitewide links for a couple hundreds dollars and then rake in the money with 10000% percent margins... AWESOME. Those days are over, and that's why SEO and link building actually became a profession by itself. You simply can't dominate the SERPs anymore as a one man shop that I used to be back then.

• Does social media provide affiliates with new opportunities? What are these opportunities?
  Social Media is just another traffic building tool. It's a new channel to generate traffic and exposure. This results in more visitors and if you entice them, more links. Long term links. And that reinforces the traffic. 

• How useful are affiliate conferences for new webmasters looking for advice? 
  This depends on the type of advice you're looking for - general roadmaps are easily outlined - so on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd say 6-7 ... but you need to know people, be good in networking and partying! Small specific workshops and of course building long term relations produce far more "advice output" IMHO.

• What will your session cover and why should people attend?
  Delegates will learn how to search and aquire great links, and what actually makes up a "great" link. This includes real life examples and tips how to setup a their work environment for link building.

• Why they should attend?
  Quality links have been important for years and will remain to do so. But, some old school-thinking in link building tough is not valid anymore.
